Understanding our condition grades
Every item is genuine pre-owned vintage fur, graded by hand after inspection in our Japan store. Grades Excellent through Good are all ready to wear — the grade simply reflects how much gentle age is visible. Fair is different: it may have issues that affect how the piece can be worn, so please read the details and photos carefully.
Excellent
Ready to wearBarely used. Looks close to new for a vintage piece and is completely ready to wear.
- Fur / pelt
- Full, soft and even. No thinning, bald spots, or shedding of note.
- Leather & seams
- Supple hide with sound, secure seams. No dryness, cracking, or repairs.
- Lining
- Clean and intact, with no tears, staining, or odor.
- Overall wearability
- Ready to wear as-is. Any signs of age are minimal and purely cosmetic.
Very Good
Ready to wearLightly worn with only minor signs of age. Fully wearable in everyday use.
- Fur / pelt
- Soft and full overall. At most very slight, even flattening in high-contact areas.
- Leather & seams
- Hide remains flexible; seams are secure. No structural issues.
- Lining
- Sound and clean. Possible faint marks that do not affect use.
- Overall wearability
- Ready to wear. Minor age is visible on close inspection only.
Good
Ready to wearA characterful piece with visible signs of use — still sound and comfortable to wear. This is the honest, well-loved end of our wearable range.
- Fur / pelt
- Generally soft, but may show some flattening, light thinning, or slight color mellowing in places.
- Leather & seams
- Hide is serviceable and seams hold; small, stable age-related marks may be present.
- Lining
- May show minor stains, small mends, or slight wear — cosmetic, not structural.
- Overall wearability
- Ready to wear for regular use. Flaws are visible but do not stop you wearing it; see photos for specifics.
Fair
Wear with careSold at a lower price for its value, for occasional use, restoration, craft, or collecting. Unlike our other grades, a Fair piece may have problems that genuinely affect how — or whether — it can be worn. Please read every detail and photo before buying.
- Fur / pelt
- May have noticeable thinning, bald patches, shedding, stiffness, or dryness of the pelt.
- Leather & seams
- Hide may be dry, brittle, cracked, or splitting; seams may be loose, opening, or previously repaired.
- Lining
- May be torn, heavily stained, detached, or missing; a persistent storage odor may be present.
- Overall wearability
- Wearability is limited and not guaranteed — the piece may be fragile, may tear with use, or may need professional restoration before it can be worn. Treat it as a project or collector's item, not everyday outerwear.
Because these are vintage pieces, minor variation in fur texture, storage scent, lining marks, or age is normal and is not considered a defect when shown in the photos or notes.
